ATLANTIC CITY, NJ - December 18, 2023 - On Friday, December 16th, under the glittering lights of Atlantic City's Showboat Hotel, Ashley Marie Myatt was crowned the 55th Miss Black America Queen.
The 29-year-old Detroit native and skilled veterinarian technician captivated judges with her talents, vision, and radiant grace, earning the coveted national title at this year's landmark pageant, celebrating
over five decades spotlighting Black excellence across America.
Myatt's passion for uplifting her community, paired with 9+ years’ experience caring for animals at shelters, nonprofits and private clinics propelled her above a field representing ambitious, service-minded Black women pursuing leadership in every arena. She holds veterinary medicine studies from Murdoch University in Australia, marrying her childhood love for creatures great and small with the drive to open her own animal care operation one day soon.
A lifelong creative spark first shown through the performing arts is now channeled into Myatt's national Miss Black America 2023 platform. She'll invest her upcoming year of service championing youth arts/music education to unlock talents and confidence within the next generation. Myatt notes participation in her church's music ministry starting at age 15 taught invaluable lessons about self-expression. Alongside her professional animal care credentials, she believes wholeheartedly in the power of music and the
creative arts to uplift lives.
Endless gratitude for her predecessors' trailblazing moves toward inclusion now motivates Myatt to pay forward opportunities to budding leaders and marginalized voices. She pledges to collaborate with communities and showcase how embracing diversity of thought, background and experience
leads to positive collective impact.
The new queen will make Detroit, MI her base of operations in this visible, high-profile role but will travel widely on her ambitious listening tour engaging residents and organizations nationwide on pressing
issues facing their locales.
All eyes now look to Myatt's year ahead guiding conversations around empowerment and community-building. Please direct scheduling inquiries TheConnector Media at 267-303-0653
